I seen this video in the 90’s sometime and it came from the library it had the most beautiful scenery in it the sailing yacht went to untouched regions of the world and the ending featured alaska and the aurora borealis it also had places like england, ireland, greenland, and other places there were no people and no one was sailing the sailing yacht. the yacht was white with very red sails if I remember correctly and it was large and very beautiful and there were voices for the yacht describing where it was going next and this waterfall with snow all on its rocks and trees had snow on them and there was a voice for the waterfall there were never any people throughout the whole video I do no know the name of this video I want to find it again can you please help and give me the name of the video thank you. I did not know what other category to put this question under it is not actually a cruise like people on a ship but more like visualizations of sceneries and such.

I’ve been searching online and on the newspaper but they are all way above budget (US$60,000).

Do any of you know where i can find cheap 65-75ft sail yachts (non-luxury kind)?
EDIT (update on budget): Thanks to sponcership, I have expended my budget to US$250,000.

Anyone knows where i can get a decent 70ft cross-ocean sail voyager for a crew of 3 men?

Make Getting Out On The Water Safer With Acoustic Insulation

Posted: under Recreation and Sports.

When the sun comes out it is nice to go out on a boat. However, it can be very dangerous if the right precautions are not taken before jumping aboard. For many of us, the true dangers of boating are not fully clear. For instance, one only has to look at the motor of a boat or the aerodynamic edges of the body of boats to know that accidents, bad accidents, can occur if people aren’t careful. To avoid danger and accidents, the office of boating safety regulates the sport. The office determines what is and what is not safe in terms of boating. It is the office that tells us we should wear life jackets, know how to ride a boat before driving one, and keeping boats in proper working order.

Hundreds of accidents, or more, occur every year on boats. It is important that everyone in charge of handling a boat knows what they should and should not do. The biggest dangers sailors face is inexperienced boaters in the same water with them. Boat collisions and other disasters due to inexperience can be avoided by having the office of boating safety determine if you’re skilled enough to be operating a boat. It is like taking a driving test on a boat. The office can grant you a certificate to say you can handle a boat.

It is vital that any vessel you sail is thoroughly maintained and working safely. You will only feel safe and comfortable whilst on the boat if it has been regularly maintained. One of the biggest features of boat safety is the application of insulator materials, especially acoustic insulation. Materials are installed into a boat’s rooms so that noise levels are kept to a minimum, and also in the engine room so that the mechanical workings are not heard. This needs to be kept in good order because if the integrity of your insulation is neglected, you may be at risk from fire and loud noise, making your boating experience less than enjoyable.

Can a modern submarine detect a sailing yacht through sonar or any means other than periscope?

Andy asked:

I wonder… can a modern military submarine (like US or Russian nuclear attack subs) detect a sailing yacht on the surface via sonar or any means other than sticking the scope up and looking around? A sailing yacht is relatively small (no more usually than 40 feet), built of lightweight materials (mostly composite plastic, rarely aluminum or wood or steel) and usually is under sails, using its engine mostly to enter and exit ports. So the only sound it makes is the sound of the hull moving through water. Can modern passive sonars pick it up and distinguish from other sounds of the sea?
OK, one more thing I probably didn’t make clear - I was considering mostly passive sonar, with active sonar that is certainly possible but subs routinely avoid using active sonar as it reveals their presence to other military ships.

evocatae asked:

Hello,
I live in the Netherlands and I am 18. I have been sailing in summer holidays for several years now. Usually on 7-10 meter yachts. Im not very experienced but I’m curious as to the rules in the US. Since I plan to move over after university I have a few questions. If I were to purchase a yacht in the US, would I need a license to sail it? Are there licenses required for sailing a night there and for long distances? Please let me know,
Thanks in advance.

Jennifer
