Ed Sparrow asked:

Are you having interest in chartering private yachts for your cruise vacation? If yes, then you are not the only one. Nowadays, most individuals opt for chartering a private yacht, rather than going for traditional cruises. After all, it serves as a perfect method of having a nice and peaceful journey on water.

If you’ve officially made a decision on chartering a yacht, then you might require the right yacht chartering company for doing business with. However with so many companies out there, it is difficult to select the one that will offer the best services going along with a beautiful yacht for your vacation. Let us look at some tips that can simplify your task of finding the right yacht charter company.

Make a Decision on Your Location

Make a decision on the location where you will be enjoying your vacation. There are companies that provide you with private yachts for any region across the world, whereas others operate only in specific locations. This is why it’s imperative to make a decision on the destination beforehand. Though selecting one destination might work for you, having options can help you in getting associated with the right yacht charter companies (if they don’t have operations everywhere).

Consult People around You

After making a decision on the area of the ocean where you will be spending your vacation, the next task is to find the right yacht chartering company. A preferable method for going about this job is to consult people around you. With more individuals regularly preferring private yachts over traditional cruises, there are chances that someone you know might have gone through this before. Ask them about the area and yacht chartering company they opted for. Their experience during the vacation might help you to know, if they went for the right yacht chartering company or not.

Online Travel Forums

If none of your close ones have gone for yacht chartering companies, you can still opt for recommendations or feedbacks available on the web. There are numerous online forums centered on topics related to travel where discussions on different yacht chartering company take place. Their views might come in handy for you to find the right yacht charter company.

Thorough Search on the Web

Again, you can also do your own research on the web for finding the right yacht chartering company. For doing this, you will require performing a thorough search on the web. Most of the reputed charter companies have online presence. From there, you can compare rates, locations and other useful information related to its services, which can help you in coming up with a conclusion about the features of the company and if they match your requirements or not.

If you’ll give a little application on finding the right yacht chartering company, you might end up having the most memorable vacation of your life!

Ken Wilson asked:

There are many companies that are specialized in helping people find a job in the yacht crew; the luxury yachts always need the professional staff in order to be maintained in the proper conditions. Actually, the jobs that are related to the boat crew are a great alternative when compared to the ordinary and stressful jobs. These types of jobs can also offer you a unique experience because you will have the opportunity to see various locations that can be out of reach for many people. You will meet people from all over the world and you will travel to exotic destinations because working as a full time crew member means that you will be able to take full advantage of the opportunities that are provided by boat jobs.

No matter the real size of an yacht, the crew will always be needed in order to take care of the passengers who are onboard; the private yacht may actually offer you the opportunity to work in close connection to a small number of people, namely the guests and your co workers. You may be able to take full advantage of an intimate workplace and you will be able to bond with all your co workers in order to create the perfect team. You must pay attention to the yacht etiquette in order to avoid unwanted mistakes but you will also be able to enjoy a real taste and sense of adventure.

The first thing to consider planning to work on a yacht is the proper marketing of your personal skills; you have to determine which type of yacht job is likely to work best in your case. As soon as you have determined the right type of job, you will have to work in order to develop the application presentation package. Every company will be looking for people with different skills that may be useful while being in the yacht crew. Therefore, you will have to advertise your own skills in order to convince every company of your present abilities; you will have to market your skills by using the appropriate and convincing strategy and this strategy needs to be adapted to the job you are looking for in the yacht crew.

You may also search for the seasonal locations that are to be found worldwide in order to determine the features of the wanted job; the calendar is to be used in order to plant yourself in the yacht job you are looking for because the yachting locations are to be used in order to target your future job search. The potential sailing options are to be checked out in order to make the final decision; each type of yacht is likely to offer you a totally new challenge when it comes to the jobs that it can offer and you have to take full advantage of all these opportunities.

You may even look for jobs on different river liners but you have to be perfectly aware that these jobs are less glamorous when compared to the yacht jobs. But you can also consider that these smaller boats are likely to offer you a more pleasant ambience because the smaller crew is likely to make the whole job a real pleasure. The experience you may gain while working on a luxury yacht may have long lasting effects; the yacht is the best option when it comes to starting your own career in sailing because you will be able to learn many things while working in this type of work atmosphere. Your personal skills will also develop thus making you able to apply for higher positions as well.

Otherwise, a simple graduation will be sufficient enough when it comes to having a job on the board of a yacht; the only thing that you will have to consider is that you are likely to experience different adventures because the trip will influence the manner in which the crew is being chosen. For instance, a particular yacht company may be looking for people who are fluent in a certain language in order to hire them onboard. The people with good communication and organizational skills will be preferred too in order to face the possible challenges that are implied by every sailing boat. All these people should also be able to work for long without complaining because the life onboard is not an easy task. Therefore, you will have to consider all your present skills in order to decide whether you are fit for a certain crew job or not because the yacht companies are pretty demanding when it comes to hiring the yacht crew.

eYachtCharter.com asked:

It is already October and we are on the cusp of the Bahamian Yachting Season. The Bahamas is truly one of the most care-free escapes on the globe. While the lifestyle in the islands seems to move along at a slower pace than the hustle bustle of U.S. cities such as LA or New York, luxury and hospitality are never compromised. If you plan on heading South for the winter you should book your luxury yacht charter now. Here are my top picks for dockage spots that should definitely make their way into your Bahamas Yacht Charter itinerary. These spectacular “yacht spots” will have you moments away from luxurious spas, adventurous diving spots and exquisite dining. Full Service Marinas in the Bahamas provide first class amenities that enhance the charter experience for both the guests and crew.

The Bluff House, The Abaco’s

This multi-million dollar marina completed its construction and renovation back in 2004. The 40-slip marina has been distinguished as the finest full service marina in the Abaco’s and no details have been overlooked. The entrance channel has been professionally dredged for easy entry and there are Texaco fuels and lubricants available on site.

These exquisite docks have been decked with over 12,000 square feet of a Brazilian teak called Ipe. The marina has an angled design which allows each vessel to have its own deck space for privacy. The Bluff House marine facility offers fuel, electricity and water hookups. There is also a clean laundry and full service bathing quarters for convenience. For an angler, the Abaco’s is a prime location for adventurous Bone Fishing. There are tenders and guides available on the island to facilitate a great experience.

Atlantis Resort and Marina, Paradise Island

The Atlantis Marina itself would probably be just like any ordinary marina if it weren’t for the rave reviews of its dock master and deckhand staff who truly transform the docking and provisioning protocols into first class service. It is said by many, that the staff located at the Atlantis Marina are one of the resort’s best assets. Many travel to the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island but few receive the unparalleled experience that is provided aboard a luxury yacht charter. Berthing at this marina has major perks with spectacular entertainment and attractions just moments away from the dock. Whether you are looking to dive and Jet Ski in the turquoise blue waters or view the unique marine life at the Atlantis Aquarium, this resort offers a vacation adventure that is second to none. Book early if you plan to arrive at Atlantis aboard a mega-yacht because this marina is booked year round.

Grand Bahama Yacht Club, Grand Bahama Island

When I think about the Grand Bahama Yacht Club, an understated elegance comes to mind. This exclusive yacht club’s reputation has spread like wildfire through phenomenal reviews. Its reputation has put this yacht club on the map as a luxury travel destination. The marina offers 150 slips which may accommodate vessels up to 175 ft with all concrete docks. Fuel services are available. There are high speed pumps that deliver triple-filtered fuel. In addition to being able to stay aboard your luxury yacht there are special rates offered at the Pelican Bay Hotel. A complimentary water shuttle is available to bring guests to the five star rated Ferry House Restaurant which has received several great reviews from some of South Florida’s toughest food critics. If you are seeking a more casual dining experience there is a pool bar and grill open for lunch and dinner. The two level swimming pool facilities allow adults to swim 25 meter laps while children may enjoy the separate children’s pool. There are also clean, modern laundry and shower facilities on site.

One of the advantages of arriving to the Bahamas aboard a luxury yacht charter as apposed to a major cruise line is that the marina is located near the Bahamas port of entry which offer expedited customs and immigration services. Complimentary shuttle service is available between the marina and Port Lucaya Marketplace.

In addition to the marina facilities, challenging golf courses and indulgent spas are all within a small radius of this luxury marina. This resort has also made its mark in the luxury marine real estate market with elegant and innovative million dollar boat houses. Whatever your pleasure may be, the Grand Bahama Yacht Club has every amenity known to man. If you are considering a Bahamas Yacht Charter, Grand Bahama Island should definitely be part of the trip.

Hurricane Hole Marina, Paradise Island

In addition to being one of the focal points for the finest mega yachts in the Caribbean , The Hurricane Hole Marina offers one of the most ideal locations on Paradise Island. The marina is within walking distance to restaurants, shopping, championship golf, casinos, nightclubs, and the Atlantis resort.

It is a 90-slip full service marina with all of the bells and whistles. This facility can offer berths for ocean mammoths up to 200 feet in length. Some of the worlds finest Bahamas Yacht Charter Vessels originate from this marina. Hurricane Hole Marina is notorious for hosting some of the regions most exciting boating events including the Bahamas Billfish Championship Tournament. Anglers from around the world come out to compete and enjoy the excitement that this island has to offer.

The sister property to Hurricane Hole Marina is the Holiday Inn SunSpree Resort, located just steps from the docks. Boaters can take advantage of affordable room rates and the spectacular service of Paradise Island’s newest waterfront property. There are also Fitness and Spa facilities available to all marina guests. If you don’t plan to stay in your staterooms aboard ship there are condo rentals available in the marina which is one of the many features that make this destination so appealing. This marina is attractive to charterers, captains and crew members. Every charter need can be facilitated at this location.

Although the Bahamas Islands are a collective bodies of land that share in the same care-free lifestyle, no island is the same. The beauty of a Bahamas Yacht Charter is that you will be able to personally tour the region and there are magnificent marinas and resorts along the way.

Kelly Wheeler asked:

Equipment to Ensure Smooth Sailing

A yacht is a sophisticated vessel and requires a large amount of equipment to function. While many of things come standard on any size yacht, some may need to be brought along with you or checked that they are indeed already in place.

Registration Papers and all documentation pertaining to the yacht must be kept on board.

Anchors are essential on board a yacht. Should you find the perfect idyllic spot to stop and go snorkelling, swimming or scuba diving, an anchor is the only way to ensure that your yacht won’t have drifted away by the time you return.

Boat Hooks protect you from injury during the docking process.

Mooring Lines are used during the docking process, which is often the trickiest part of a journey. Relying on equipment to hold the yacht steady and bring her into dock is much safer and more reliable than your arms and legs.

Navigation Lights are usually a federal requirement on board any yacht, particularly on those that are motorised. Their use is mandatory after dark.

A Bilge Pump or any other type of de-watering device is used in the event of the yacht beginning to take on water.

A Basic Tool Kit can come in handy when you need to fix that broken light bulb or squeaky galley drawer. It is useful to keep a torch and spare batteries in here too.

Yachting Safety Equipment

It is also essential that you and your passengers are safe on board your yacht at all times. A yachting holiday is an incredible experience whether you are in the Caribbean, the Mediterranean or South East Asia, and no one wants it to be marred by a little sunburn. Being prepared is the only way to ensure that everyone enjoys their time on board and that any potential setbacks can be avoided.

First Aid Kits should always be on hand so that minor incidents such as cuts and bruises can be dealt with on board and do not have to force a trip to the mainland. Every first aid kit should also include sunscreen and after-sun ointment for a soothing end to a languid day in the sunshine.

A Marine Radio is essential on board any vessel and acts as your primary connection to the mainland. Make sure that at least two people on board know how to use it and can radio out if the need arises.

A Chart and Compass or GPS is useful if you intend to sail far off shore. Heading out without a clear idea of where you are going is never a good plan. Having someone on board who can read a compass and chart a course should be a requirement.

A Throwable Flotation Device or a life ring acts as a life saving device should anyone fall overboard and should be kept in an easily accessible place on deck.

A Fire Extinguisher is a requirement on any vessel and larger yachts may be required to carry more than one. Ensure that your fire extinguisher is Coast Guard approved and keep it in the vicinity of the engine or fuel tank.

A Horn or Whistle is legally required to be carried on board any yacht sailing in federal waters.

Visual Distress Signals are necessary on both day and night voyages and should be within their expiration date.

Yachting Equipment for You

Once your yacht is fully equipped and you are confident that you have whatever would be needed in an emergency, the next step is to make sure that you are also prepared.

Drinking Water should be kept in a safe place as an emergency supply.

Snacks that are high in protein and are non-perishable will be a lifesaver should you be away from land perusing some spectacular coral reefs for an extended period of time.

Hats and Sun screen are a non-negotiable necessity on board a yacht. No one wants to have to spend their yachting holiday below deck thanks to a scorching sunburn.

Life jackets are essential on board, especially if you intend to make use of water sports equipment like wind surfers or wave runners.

A Cell Phone can retain its signal at surprising distances out to sea. Keeping one on board can be handy to get in touch with loved ones or be reachable should anyone need you back home.

Warm Clothes are vital on board a yacht. Nights can get cold out on the open sea and you don’t want to shiver throughout your holiday. But this doesn’t mean that you should bring huge amounts of clothing. Space on a yacht is limited, so pack light with necessities over accessories.

Regular Medications are easy to forget and can make a yachting holiday unpleasant if you do not have them on hand.

A Camera is not exactly an essential, but with those breathtaking sunsets waiting for you, you will be sorry if you left yours behind.

Avoiding All the Equipment

If your dream of sailing off into the sunset, cocktail in hand now feels like it is drowning in admin and things to remember, there is another way to go. Heading out on a yacht charter means that all these details are sorted out for you well in advance and all that is left for you to do is step on board. Companies organise private yacht charters on vessels ranging in size from 20 ft to 150 ft. Consultants can help tailor your yachting itinerary to suit your needs, hire the right crew and even equip your yacht. From the docking papers to the chef, a Yacht Broker can ensure that your holiday is hassle-free and fully equipped with everything you could ever need on board. From safety equipment to entertainment features, Yachting Partners International ensures that all your needs are catered for and that all eventualities are accounted for.

Shaun Parker asked:

I often find it difficult to decide what to do for the summer, even when it comes to deciding where to go on holiday. For me holidays have to be relaxing, somewhere preferably warm, but with the option of being active. One thing I have not yet tried is approaching a yacht charter specialist. The idea of travelling around on a sailing boat seems more fun and exciting than staying static on an island - though there is nothing more appealing than lying on a beach with a cool beverage in one hand.

The option for a yacht charter holiday can be expensive. They often range between 1000 pounds - 25000, pounds so opting for this kind of holiday will require a lot of scrimping and saving but is worth the extra expenditure in the end. Those that do decide on a sailing holiday will have the option of going for a skippered or bareboat yacht charter. They are available for those interested in travelling around the coast of the Greek Islands or exploring the Indian coast. Unless you are very sensitive and suffer from motion sickness, then there are a few things to have in mind before going for this kind of holiday.

Skippered or bareboat?

When I began researching various holiday destinations and yacht charter, I came across two very unfamiliar terms - skipper and bareboat. What is a skippered and bareboat yacht charter? Quite simply a skippered yacht contains a skipper or captain who controls the crew and the yacht, or just the yacht if you choose not to have the extra crew. This word originates from the Dutch for schipper or schip meaning ship. The English use this word more than the word Captain for specific types of boats and yachts. The charterer in this case does not have possession of the boat, even though they have the option to choose where to sail.

Bareboat is quite literally hiring a boat bare - no crews or a skipper in sight! The owners give up possession of the boat for a length of time, leaving the charterer responsible for their own provisions and crew. Therefore, this option is more for the yachting experts who are confident in skippering their own boats. This is not an option for a newbie like me, but bareboat yacht charter is popular with those who are more experienced and/or holding a Coastal Skipper Qualification at hand.

Experience is necessary

Yacht chartering businesses do require their customers to have some degree of yachting experience. Although some yacht charter businesses offer skippers and crews, those interested in bareboat yachts will need to know something about anchoring and mooring. Often a skipper is hired for the day, for those who are in need of a little more help in this technique, but if you choose to sail independently, you are most likely going to have to provide evidence of any suitable experience you have had.

Experience of sailing come at different levels, usually those wanting to sail around the Mediterranean coast can have a basic knowledge of yachting. The further people want to travel to, such as Australia or Vietnam, the more experience, knowledge or qualifications they will need in order to hire a boat.

One thing is for certain, if you do fancy stopping by at a beach for a bit of rest and relaxation, and maybe even a top up on your tan then those travelling independently on a yacht can do this at any point in time. The beauty of sailing is that you do not have to worry about checking in at a hotel and you are not restricted to any curfews. This may not be the case for larger luxury yachts with hired crewmembers, but you are guaranteed the experience of travelling to more than one destination on the island.
