NOTE: I am not making this point. I just see it about once a week in the Olympic category. Somebody tries to say not much skill or athletecism involved.

Make your counter point.
GOOD JOB EVERBODY YES PEOPLE ATTACK WHAT THEY DON’T UNDERSTAND. i THINK SOME PEOPLE HAVE A REAL BIAS AGAINST SAILING CONFUSING IT WITH WHAT THYE SEE ON THE LAKES OVER THE WEKEND.
SAILING IS SET UP SO THAT SKILL IS REWARDED AS ALL THE BOATS ARE THE SAME AND POINTS ARE BASED OVER SEVERAL RACES REWARDING THOSE THAT ARE CONSISTENT AND NOT JUST A FLUKE.

I only surf, but I agree sailing is very physical, and a sport as such. We’re not talking spending the sunday arvo on your mates yacht…

ask them if they have ever been sailing? specifically racing? if they say no, then ignorance is bliss. They can also watch sailing on ESPN at times as well as the VS channel.
Lots of skill involved and lots of phycial strenghth too!

People who say sailing is not a sport, is because they ’simply don’t know anything about sailing!
I haven’t done sailing, but I’ve done windsurf, and its obviously a great sport.
